SUBJECT: Combat Damage to Aircraft.

TO: Commanding Officer, 340th Bomb Sq., 97th Bomb. Gp., APO 520.

1. B-17F Aircraft No. 42-30384. 340th Bomb Squadron., 97th BombGp., was received by this service squadron for repairs on 25 February 1944, following an operational mission. The following repairs were necessary to replace aircraft in commission.

a. Replaced 7 control cables.

b. Replaced 23 fuel tanks. Only No. 1 main tank remained undamaged.

c. Replaced Nos. 3 & 4 Superchargers and ducts and Nos. l & 2 propellers.

d. Replaced Air Induction lion System to No. 1 engine.

e. Replaced both bomb bay doors.

f. Replace No. 2 oil tank.

g. Replaced 7 oxygen lines and 2 oxygen bottles.

h. Replaced 3 vacuum lines and pump on No. 2 engine.

i. Replaced 3 main fuel hoses, 3 air filters, right and left flaps and right flap retracting screw.

j. Replaced right and left outer wings. Right wing had over 600 holes, with all tokyo tanks punctured.

k. Patched 4 main spar holes, 1000 metal patches on airplane, and over 200 fabric patches. Airplane had 1775 holes in it, including outer wings.

1. Spliced 193 electrical wires.

2. Aircraft was returned to commission on 30 march 1944.
